Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Adults seeking to be incorporated in the Catholic faith community are invited into the Rites of Christian Initiation (RCIA). RCIA is a process of inquiry, catechetical study and formation, ritual celebrations, and full incorporation into the Catholic Church. Usually this process takes about one year and culminates at the Easter Vigil. RCIA includes preparation for Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

This year round process begins when the inquirer makes the initial contact. The formal process  will be on Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 PM until Pentecost. Contact our Director of Pastoral Care, Sr. Josetta Marie Spencer, SSND by calling: 651/227-4669, ext. 312 or you may E-mail her here.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (CIC)

Christian initiation for all school age children (and their families) who have not been baptized or who were baptized in another tradition and have not received the sacrament of First Eucharist. There is no "right" age to receive the sacraments, it is whenever you are ready. Everyone is called at their own time and place. Please contact Mary Ann by calling or e-mailing her here if you would like more information.

Baptism of Infants

Baptism Preparation Classes are for those wanting their children baptized. Classes are held quarterly on Sundays, 9:00-10:15 AM in the Pastoral Center on the East Campus, 1079 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. Marriage at Saint Thomas More Church

The vocation of marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they come from the hand of the Creator God. Marriage is God's way of joining two people in love and fidelity and of bringing new human persons into existence. Christ raised marriage to the dignity of a sacrament as a covenant made between a man and a woman which establishes between them a partnership for the whole of life. A Christian marriage is a sign to the world of Christ's presence among us.

Eligibility Criteria
A baptized, practicing Catholic who is a registered and active member of the Church of St. Thomas More may begin the marriage preparation program (PREPARE) when membership is demonstrated by:

1) Actively sharing in the parish's life and mission

2) Participating in the weekly Eucharistic Assembly

3) Sharing in the various ministries and activities of the   parish

4) Engaging in financial stewardship of one's resources for the common mission of the parish

Members
A Catholic party must establish a permanent residence within the parish's canonical boundaries (roughly Grotto Street, portions of St. Albans Street, St. Clair Avenue, Hamline Avenue, and University Avenue) at least six weeks prior to contacting the Church of St. Thomas More to begin the marriage preparation program and determining a wedding date.

A Catholic party who resides outside the parish boundaries (see above paragraph) and does not plan to change residency must be a registered member of the Church of St. Thomas More six months prior to entering into the marriage preparation program and determining a wedding date.

Sometimes two people wishing to marry request that their marriage preparation be done at the Church of St. Thomas More but the marriage ceremony be performed at a different church. In this situation, one of the two people must be an active member of St. Thomas More Church (see criteria listed above under "eligibility").

Date and Time Availability
Weddings may be scheduled for Friday evenings at 6:00 PM or Saturdays at 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM. Catholic liturgical guidelines do not allow weddings to be celebrated on Saturday after 4:00 PM, on Sundays, on Holy Days, and during the seasons of Advent and Lent except in extraordinary circumstances.

Enrollment in the preparation process and establishment of a wedding date must be no earlier than fifteen months and no later than nine months. The establishment of a reservation date does not assure that the wedding will take place, but only that the Church and a presider will be available if all other requirements are satisfied.
